New FriendsA most enjoyable day with new friends from around the world. We re-lived shared history from 1864, viewed a photographic journal of Nuu-chah-nulth ancients, soaked our toes in Hot Springs, and talked about the future. A full day of exchanging stories and sharing memories of a life-time.
Our day was full of new experiences, lasting gifts and moments for reflection. The experience was more than we could have asked for...we caught a coho, enjoyed traditional BBQ salmon and took quiet time with a Kaakawiin (orca). |
Come to our home on the west coast of Vancouver Island: Ahousat, BC is one of the fourteen Nuu Chah Nulth tribes. The Ahousaht Hahoolthee (traditional territory) includes Tofino, BC; Clayoqout Sound....a Unesco Biosphere; and, north to Hot Springs Cove, BC.
About Spirit Eagle Experiences
We are Ahousaht (First Nations, Aboriginal, Indigenous). We are people of the Nuu-chah-nulth tribal group. We are rooted in the Frank, Atleo, and Sam families. My father was born from the joining of David Frank and Jemima Sam. My mother is a princess from the house of Atleo: Margaret (nee Charlie) and Shamrock Atleo, third Hereditary Chief of Ahousaht.
I, Pam and our son, Qwascha-a invite you to join us for a shared experience that will last a lifetime. Spirit Eagle Experiences is a family owned and operated Ahousaht business that is Ahousaht Safe, Transport Canada Certified, and Industry Insured.
The name Spirit Eagle is a significant symbol as the spirit carrier, the eagle (siiqwaatiin) empowers us with strength, wisdom and ability to succeed to heights unknown. The Spirit Eagle is of significance to our family because at every new experience an eagle has been present: during our travels to Moyehai where our family began, during our wedding, at the birth of our children and during times when a reminder was needed.
Pam and Jerry
Pam an Ahousaht First Nation leader is well known for her love of hosting guests from all around the world. Pam was gifted with the knowledge of the ancients and continues to live her teachings to this day. Pam has been acknowledged for her knowledge of Ahousaht cultural practices and ceremonies. Jerry arrived in the traditional territory (hahoolthee) of the Ahousaht 25 years ago and continues to fish, explore and live Ahousaht. Jerry and Pam have been gifted with teachings from esteemed elders: uncle Mark Atleo, grandpa David Frank, Edwin and Trudy Frank, Sam Mack, Stanley Sam, Sidney Sam, Cosmos Frank, Murray John Sr., Momook, Harold Little, uncle Nelson Keithlah, uncle Dave Frank, uncle Carl Jumbo, uncle Roy Haiyupis, auntie Vera and Nan Margaret, to name a few.
Our Sons
Our oldest has traveled and fished the open waters from Tofino to Kyuquot with his late Grandpa Edwin Frank. Grandpa taught Qwaascha-a how to skipper a boat in 24’ swells and fish only the best hot spots on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Qwaascha-a has lived the Ahousaht teachings of his grandparents and is now teaching these to his son. Our youngest son is a cultural leader and enjoys traveling the seas of his ancestors. Together they can show you what it means to live our First Nations teachings.
